(IT FAQ) Move your old email to GMail

 

Here are two ways to move your email from the old system (SchoolZone MyMail) over to the new system (GMail).

Forward a single email to yourself at GMail

  1. Log on to MyMail
  2. Open (view) the email in the usual way then click 'Forward'
  3. On the next screen enter your email address in the 'To:' field then click 'Send'

Instruct GMail to download your INBOX from SchoolZone MyMail

This is harder to set up but means that GMail will download all the mail from your MyMail Inbox to your GMail Inbox. This feature of GMail is called 'Mail Fetcher' and GMail's instructions for it are here.

The following describes the steps and the settings you will need:

  1. In GMail click 'Settings' then 'Accounts' then 'Add a mail account you own'
  2. For the 'email address of the account to get mail from' enter 'yourname@wadestown.schoolzone.net.nz' then click 'Next Step'.
  3. On the next screen enter ...
    • 'Username:' 'yourname@wadestown.schoolzone.net.nz'
    • 'Password:' enter the password you used to access your SchoolZone mail
    • 'POP Server: 'pop.wadestown.schoolzone.net.nz'
    • That's all you need, leave everything else as it is.
  4. Then, finally, click 'Add Account'

Note that Mail Fetcher just works for the Inbox. If you have created lots of folders in MyMail then you will have to (manually) recreate them in GMail.
