Wadestown School

International Student Programme

Children

Thank you for showing interest in the Wadestown School International Student programme.

Wadestown School presently provides the largest International programme for 11 – 13 year old students in any school in Wellington, and we are presently wishing to extend the programme to enrol more younger children. We are the only primary school in Wellington with a homestay programme for students wishing to study in Wellington, unaccompanied by their parents. Many of our international students (mainly Korean) feed into the major Wellington secondary schools.

The programme has been operating for a number of years. The study plan has been developed by the school, in conjunction with our international agents to meet the needs of children wanting to primarily learn English. Our international students are integrated into the normal New Zealand school programme, and most stay in Kiwi homes (All children younger than 10.5 years studying in New Zealand must be accompanied by a parent). There is an opportunity for Korean international students to receive supplementary out-of-school tuition from Capital Wellington English Education Service (CWEES).

The school employs a fully qualified teacher to work alongside our international students in the classroom or in withdrawal situations. This teacher also has responsibility for the pastoral care of the children, and looks after all homestay arrangements

The purpose of the International Student programme is to introduce overseas children to our Kiwi culture and to provide a variety of opportunities for English language learning. Most students stay in New Zealand for one year.
